Become a host family

Welcoming an au pair involves a cultural exchange and brings a genuine human experience into your family.

The au pair’s involvement in the family’s daily tasks is not the primary purpose of their stay. The host family should encourage their au pair to engage in the cultural activities of the country.

An au pair is neither a housekeeper nor a professional educational assistant!

Do’s

Best practices for effectively integrating the au pair so they feel welcome

Include at least one child under 13 years old

Provide proof of planned daycare for child(ren) under 6 years old

Offer a private room for the au pair

Provide pocket money equivalent to at least one-fifth of the legal minimum wage.

Cover language courses (the host family and the au pair can choose the school and language)

Enroll the au pair in health insurance for healthcare

Take care of accident insurance

Provide food

Contribute to the cultural development of the au pair

Introduce the au pair to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg

Don’ts

Au pairs are not babysitters available 24 hours a day

Au pairs are not employees. They are fully integrated family members
